MAKOM YOGA

Mindful Movement • Creative Ritual • Reflective Study

Makom Yoga weaves Jewish wisdom, embodied mindfulness, and gentle movement into a practice of presence and connection. Through text study, reflection, breath, and yoga, participants are invited to encounter familiar teachings in fresh and meaningful ways—experiencing Torah not only through the mind, but through the body as well.

I founded Makom Yoga in 2017 to bring together Torah study and mindful movement in community. Since then, I have led classes, retreats, workshops, and conference sessions around the country. From synagogue chapels to yoga studios, from sukkahs to living rooms, from conference centers to the redwoods, each gathering invites participants to slow down, pay attention, and encounter Jewish wisdom in an embodied way.

Recent Workshops & Retreats:

  • Awaken and Return: A Virtual Jewish Meditation and Yoga Retreat (Shalem Network)

  • Moving into the New Year: Entering Rosh Hashanah with Journaling, Meditation & Yoga

  • Yoga Shacharit: Embodying Our Morning Prayers

  • Moving in the Garden of Eden: Torah Yoga Experience

  • Pre-Shabbat Yoga: Weekly Online Classes During the Pandemic

Each Makom Yoga session begins with Jewish text, reflection, and conversation before moving into embodied practice. The materials below offer a glimpse into how Torah study informs and inspires movement.

Background & Training

Makom Yoga draws on Rabbi Laurie's experience as a rabbi, educator, retreat leader, and certified yoga teacher. Her approach integrates Jewish text study, mindful movement, creative ritual, and community-building to create experiences that are accessible to participants of all backgrounds and levels of experience.

Rabbi Laurie completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training through Breathe For Change, a nationally recognized program focused on mindfulness, wellness, and social-emotional learning for educators. She also studied at Avalon Yoga in Palo Alto, completed prenatal yoga teacher training through Harmony Birth & Family in Campbell, and was a founding faculty member of Embodied Jewish Learning.
